A day in the life of a magician/Illusionist

Now I know most of you are thinking how can a person make a legit living or income doing theater show? And it's a legit question. Most people think that it can only be done as a side hobby and you need a "real job" in order to be successful. I have a possible answer to this mystery. Take it how you will and use at your own disposal. It may help or may be the worst idea of all time. This is something that I would normally cover in a highly complex lecture, or even more likely write in a book. But lets imagine for just a moment I gave a glipse into this idea or at least a small part of it just to satisfy a piece of your curiosity.

I had lunch with my father today about a 40 minute drive from where I live. With giving away an easy two hours of time for a meal at Denny's and driving each way, one would easily conclude that with this much time lost, a person can't make a full time living. I disagree. If the numbers are right, which in my opinion, most will not accomplish year after consecutive year without playing a very good numbers game, they can make a good amount of money doing things they love with a deck of cards. Here is an interesting scenario to think about as food for thought.

If a person owns a 5 million dollar home, they can probably afford a $2,000 show. For that price offer, I wouldn't care if the gig is 2 or 6 hours. It's a good amount of money, and I want to give it my all because if I do well this time, who knows what the next opportunity could be. A person with a home that large, has to do multimillion dollar jobs. Real estate, finance, and film are some of the more popular ones in Los Angeles. That person's immediate circle are all going to be high net worth clients. If they throw a house party, which they will if they work in film industry, they will invite 100 of their closest colleagues to show off their home and talk further deals. With a deck of cards, now you could be in the room with the people at the top doing the highest level deals.

Over the weekend this happened to me late night after my own show for a private birthday that was hosted at a wedding chapel. Although I went to an event late on a Saturday night, I only met a few people, and because I was a guest of the magician working, I didn't try to start asking for phone numbers. The one thing I could have done, is used my presence to get him another gig by using my verbal magic skills to have them somehow get him hired for another event. Just a good way to say thank you. Besides, if they get another gig from me being at their event, there's a good chance I could get a referral back from them later on. Networking is a lot of work, but many times, from events like this, I have had countless doors of opportunity opened for me over the years. You choose which one to walk through. To your health, and magical wealth.
